Climate change stands as one of the most pressing challenges of our time, demanding collective efforts for a sustainable future. Fortunately, innovative approaches are emerging to contribute to the fight against climate change, and one of them involves using my phone as a weapon for the betterment of the planet. In this post, I will delve into a groundbreaking and unique membership platform called Hero, created by three visionary individuals from France, Costa Rica, and Tunisia from 3 continents. Their goal is to provide financial support to "climate mobilizers," or "climate change makers", young individuals who actively work to combat climate change, like Greta Thunberg, Anuna De Wever, and thousands of others worldwide through concrete actions.
Who Are the Heroes Behind HERO?
Hero platform transcends being just another climate startup; it's a bold initiative aiming to enable climate changemakers, predominantly women, to dedicate themselves 100% to the climate cause. These climate heroes carry out their volunteer actions outside their regular work hours. Hero offers financial support to allow them to work full-time for us, and the planet, expediting the necessary changes through our financial backing.
The impact of this initiative even won over Cristina Figueres, the coordinator of COP 21 in Paris, who actively supports it. As one of Hero's founders explained to me, "The climate crisis is the biggest challenge we face, and we must ask ourselves how we can harness the power of collective action to address it. We understand the importance of our individual efforts, but do we truly grasp the potential when we come together? That's the question driving our mission at HERO."
An Inspirational Tale of a 7-Year-Old
One of the Hero founders shared with me an incredibly touching story about his 7-year-old daughter. After discovering the platform, she decided to give her tooth fairy money to her father to sign up for Hero. Isn't that heartwarming? It demonstrates that the youngest members of our society can contribute to the climate cause. An example for me, an example for us.
